Concrete Curbing FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions)
Do you use forms to lay the concrete?
No. It's a completely customized process and takes far less time. We use a machine that extrudes the concrete into a continuous concrete border.
How long does this process take?
Depending on the type and footage of the project, most jobs are completed in one day.
Do you use reinforcement in your curbing?
Yes, reinforced fibres are used in the curbing.
Will the colour fade over the years?
We recommend that you use a sealer to keep your colour true. Resealing is a good maintenance practice. Ask us about how often to reseal your curbing.
How durable is the curbing? Will it crack?
All hard substances will crack over time but due to cuts made in the concrete every three to four feet, and because of the thickness of the concrete, it is unusual for cracks to appear.
How will replacing my existing edging with curbing affect my landscaping?
You will need to remove any existing landscape borders. If you have sprinkler heads on or around the borders, please consult with us to determine if they need to be relocated. We will cut a 9" wide strip of sod away in the shape of your design or current landscaping and prepare the ground. Existing landscaping such as trees and plants are not disturbed by this process.
What are the major benefits of curbing?
Curbing provides a successful root barrier between the garden lawn and the flower beds, inhibiting grass from growing into the flower beds, it keeps valuable soil, mulch or decorative bark from leaching out of garden beds, it inhibits weed growth into the garden and finally, it creates ease in mowing since the lawnmower can simply run alongside the curb, reducing the necessity to trim edges around gardens with a weed whacker. The curbing will not rust, fade, heave or look old and dilapidated. Read more ...
Can I mow up against my curbing?
Your curbing will be as strong as 3000psi and will withstand your mowers weight to ride along the edge of the curbing. The blades of your mower will not damage your curbing, and will allow you to mow right up against it, resulting in less time spent weed eating around your landscaped areas. We also have a mower style curb specially designed to simplify mowing around your garden edge.
How large is the footprint of the curbing?
All Curbz are 4" high and 6" wide and can extend as long and far as you like. From small circles around trees to edging around driveways, concrete curbing can be custom shaped to your design specifications - in straight or curved lines.
Can you install the curbing in the rain?
No, the rain marks the wet concrete, but we can dig the trenches and outline the area to be curbed. If it rains on your scheduled installation day we will contact you to reschedule.
